Exxon Mobil said that the contract worker was fatally injured early Wednesday morning in the incident at a unit under maintenance at the company’s Beaumont refinery.

Authorities say a man has died after a pipe fell on him while he was working at a Southeast Texas refinery.

Jefferson County sheriff’s office spokesman Marcus McLellan says contractors were working on an elevated platform on a heat exchanger when the pipe fell on one of the workers. The worker’s name has not yet been released.

McLellan says they are investigating and that per protocol, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration will investigate as well.
